Basic Survey Instruments

Linear Measurement Instruments :

surveying can be performed in different  methods they are  direct method, electromagnetic methods and optical methods.

1. Tapes -     are used in surveying to measure horizontal, vertical, and slope distances

and are of two types - Fiber and Steel at Different sizes like- 3M-5M-15M-30M

2. Passometer.:   instrument is  like a watch  that is carried on the person's pocket

3. Pedometers  : Instrument  to  measure the number of steps and provide an estimate of

                             distance walked

4. Survey Chains :are commonly used to directly measure the linear distance between two

points on  earth's surface.  Types of Survey Chains: Metric, Steel Band, Gunter's,

                               Engineers and Revenue Chain.

5. Compass :  Used  to find direction and Location , Where as Prismatic compass is used to find out

Bearings of  the traversing and included angles between them. Brunton compass  used in

Geological Applications.  Types of Compass used for survey purpose are Surveyors

                        Compass, Prismatic Compass, Brinton Compass

6. Cross Staff :  Used to mark  a straight line and 90 degree while moving with a offset road there are Open,

                            French and Adjustable cross staffs.

7. Ranging Rod : Straight Rods in 2 to 5 M Length used in the field to mark straight Lines and Are

                              calculation in a survey work.
